Marisa und ihr Redz Taxi Service (1-868-712 2627) holte mich am Freitag um 14 Uhr im The Zen Den (+1-868-359 8785) ab und fuhr mich bei viel Verkehr in einer knappen Stunde zum Flughafen. Mein KLM (http://klm.com) Nachtflug nach Amsterdam war pünktlich und ich bin sogar einige Male eingenickt! : ) In Amsterdam hatte ich gerade noch Zeit einen echten Kaffee zu geniessen nach dem ewigen Fussmarsch zu meinem Weiterflug nach Zürich. Um 11 Uhr landete ich und wurde von meiner Tochter Melanie und meinen Enkelinnen Hanna und Aline abgeholt! : ))

Marisa and her Redz Taxi Service (1-868-712-2627) picked me up at 2 pm on Friday at The Zen Den (+1-868-359-8785) and drove me to the airport in just under an hour, despite heavy traffic. My KLM (http://klm.com) overnight flight to Amsterdam was on time and I even dozed off a few times! : ) In Amsterdam, I just had time to enjoy a real coffee after the endless walk to my connecting flight to Zurich. I landed at 11 am and was picked up by my daughter Melanie and my granddaughters Hanna and Aline! : ))

Was für eine Reise! : ) Ich habe 23 Inseln der Kleinen Antillen bereist, 16 davon kannte ich noch nicht… und ausgelassen habe ich die Virgin Islands (besuchte ich während meiner Reise durch die Grossen Antillen im 2025/16: https://franziskaaeschbach14.blogspot.com), Guadeloupe (befand sich nicht auf meinem Weg und ich bereiste es das letzte Mal im 2010 vor meiner Blogger-Zeit), die ABC-Inseln (besuchte ich 2018: https://franziskaaeschbach18.blogspot.com) und Venezuela ist für mich wegen der korrupten politischen Situation im Moment ein No-Go…

Vieles konnte ich nur vor Ort organisieren, denn oft waren die Informationen im Internet nicht angepasst! Zum Beispiel der Hurrikan Beryl letztes Jahr hat alles durcheinander gemacht und die Fahrpläne der Fähren wurden reduziert und vor allem für den Transport des Wiederaufbaus benötigt… aber niemand passte die Änderungen im Internet an! Die Menschen vor Ort konnten mir aber stets aktuelle Infos liefern!

Die meisten Inseln waren in Besitz von Grossbritannien und sind seit einiger Zeit unabhängig… und fast überall wird englisch gesprochen. Ein Teil von St. Maarten sowie Saba und St. Eustatius gehören zu den Niederlanden, gesprochen wird aber meist englisch. Der andere Teil von St. Martin, St. Barths, Guadeloupe und Martinique gehören zu Frankreich und dort wird nicht nur stur französisch gesprochen, sondern man bezahlt auch mit dem Euro. Die meistverbreitete Währung ist der East Caribbean Dollar (nur Barbados hat den Barbados Dollar) doch auch der US Dollar wird vielerorts gerne angenommen…

What a trip! : ) I've visited 23 islands in the Lesser Antilles, 16 of which I hadn't know yet... and I left out the Virgin Islands (I visited them during my trip through the Greater Antilles in 2025/16: https://franziskaaeschbach14.blogspot.com), Guadeloupe (it wasn't on my way and I last visited it in 2010, before I started blogging), the ABC Islands (I visited in 2018: https://franziskaaeschbach18.blogspot.com), and Venezuela is a no-go for me at the moment because of the corrupt political situation...

Organizing my travels were not that easy and a lot of things I was only able to organize on site, because the information online was often not updated! For example, Hurricane Beryl last year messed everything up and ferry schedules were reduced, primarily needed for transporting materials needed for reconstruction... but no one updated the changes online! However, the people on site were always able to provide me with up-to-date information!

Most of the islands were owned by Great Britain and have been independent for some time now... and English is spoken almost everywhere. A part of St. Maarten as well as Saba and St. Eustatius belong to the Netherlands, but English is mostly spoken. The other part of St. Martin, St. Barths, Guadeloupe, and Martinique belong to France and not only is French spoken there, but payment is also made in the euro. The most widely used currency is the East Caribbean dollar (only Barbados has the Barbados dollar), but the US dollar is readily accepted in many places...

Durch Shane, den Cousin von Philena vom The Zen Den (+1-868-359 8785), lernte ich Marisa und ihr Redz Taxi Service (1-868-712 2627) kennen. Sie bietet Transporte aller Arten an, so buchte ich sie für einen Tag an die Nordküste von Trinidad und am Freitag zum Flughafen... Um 8 Uhr, wie verabredet, stand sie vor der Tür und wir fuhren Richtung Norden. Unterwegs nahmen wir ein typisches Trini Frühstück ein: einen Double (Kichererbsen-Curry in einem dünnen Flachbrot).

Through Shane, Philena's cousin from The Zen Den (+1-868-359-8785), I met Marisa and her Redz Taxi Service (1-868-712-2627). She offers all kinds of transportation, so I booked her for a day to the north coast of Trinidad and then to the airport on Friday. At 8 am, as agreed, she was at the door and we drove direction north. On the way, we had a typical Trinidad breakfast: a double (chickpea curry in a thin flatbread).

20 km und eine Stunde später, erreichen wir Maracas an der Nordküste.... die grossen Anlagen zeigen, dass dieser Ort an Wochenenden bestimmt voller Badefreudiger ist… Heute wurde vom langen Wochenende aufgeräumt. Etwas weiter in Cuevas machten wir einen kurzen Halt um dann etwas nördlich die 101 Treppen zum gleichnamigen Strand zu erreichen…

20 km and an hour later, we reached Maracas on the north coast... the large facilities indicate that this place is surely full of beachgoers on weekends... Today some people cleaned up after the long weekend. A bit further we made a short stop in Cuevas before heading north to the 101 steps leading to the beach of the same name...

Marisa ist eine alleinerziehende Powerfrau und wir hatten sehr viel Spass! Sie fragte mich, ob ich bereit für ein Abenteuer bin… klar doch! Auf sehr schlechten Strassen gelangten wir nach Avcoa, wo ein Weg meist im Fluss zum Avocat Wasserfall führte. Um den wunderschönen Wasserfall zu erreichen, musste man dann zuerst ein grosses Becken durchschwimmen, rausklettern und um die Ecke sah man ihn schon! : )

Marisa is a single mother power woman and we had lots of fun! She asked me, if I was ready for an adventure... of course! We reached Avcoa on very bad roads, where a path mostly led through the river to the Avocat waterfall. To reach the beautiful waterfall, you first had to swim through a large pool, climb out and then you could see it around the corner! : )

An meinem letzten ganzen Tag in Trinidad ging ich morgens auf eine Joggingrunde um den Queen's Park Savannah – genial wie immer! : ) Am Nachmittag nahm ich den Bus in die Stadt, denn ich musste mich von meinen geliebten Handgepäckkoffer trennen und ihn ersetzten… zurück ging es mit einem Sammel-Privattaxi.

On my last full day in Trinidad, I went for a morning run around the Queen's Park Savannah – brilliant as always! : ) In the afternoon I took the bus into town because I had to leave my beloved carry-on suitcase behind and replace it... Back I used a shared private taxi.
