Habe ich gut geschlafen im El Momo Kokopelli Cottage (http://elmomocottages.com). Erstens ist es bedeutend kühler mit richtig frischer Luft hier auf Saba und das Bett ist himmlisch! : ) Ich schlief länger als gewohnt - bis 7:30 Uhr!
I slept well in the El Momo Kokopelli Cottage (http://elmomocottages.com). Firstly, it is significantly cooler with real fresh air here on Saba and the bed is heavenly! : ) I slept longer than usual - until 7:30 am!

Saba ist
ein Wanderparadies (https://www.sabatourism.com/hiking)
mit einem ganzen Netzwerk von gut ausgeschilderten aber sehr steilen
Wanderwegen. Auch die einzige sehr gute
aber schmale Strasse The Road (gebaut 1938-58) der Insel ist extrem steil und
man benötigt ein Auto mit einem starken Motor. Saba zählt 2000 Einwohner aus 40
Nationen, es hat also schon ziemlich viele Fahrzeuge auf der 5 km2
(2 x 2.5 km) kleinen Insel und manchmal muss man jonglieren... Alle Leute
grüssen einander, sei es zu Fuss oder winkend und hupend im Auto... So auch
Cyril, den ich an jeder Ecke der Insel traf und der mich freundlicherweise
immer ein Stück mitnahm, mitwanderte oder mir einen Teil seiner Insel zeigte...
Saba is a hiking paradise (https://www.sabatourism.com/hiking) with a whole network of well-signposted but very steep hiking trails. Also the only very good but narrow road of Saba, The Road (built 1938-58), is extremely steep and you need a car with a powerful engine. Saba has 2’000 inhabitants from 40 nations, so there are quite a lot of vehicles on the 5 km2 (2 x 2.5 km) small island and sometimes you have to juggle... Everyone greets each other, whether on foot or waving and honking in the car... The same goes for Cyril, who I met on every corner of the island and who was always kind enough to give me a ride, hike with me a stretch or show me a part of his island...

Es war Sonntag und es kündigte sich ein prächtiger Tag an... und ich war neugierig, wie es bei Tageslicht aussieht, wo ich gestern Abend gelandet war! So entschied ich, mich gleich auf die erste Wanderung zu machen... zum erloschenen Vulkan Mount Scenery 877 m. 1064 Tritte führen zum Mount Scenery und ich benötigte ca. 2 Stunden mit vielen Fotopausen - aber ich tropfte! Nach der Wanderung am nächsten Tag, hab ich Saba in die Treppeninsel umgetauft! ; )
It was Sunday and a beautiful day was forecast... and I was curious to see what it looks like with daylight, where I had landed last night! Thus I decided to go on my first hike straight away... to the extinct volcano Mount Scenery 877 m. 1064 steps lead to Mount Scenery and it took me about 2 hours with lots of photo breaks - but I was dripping! After the hike the next day, I renamed Saba the island of stairs! ; )

Am Montag
nahm ich den Crispeen Trail in Angriff, der mich in einer Stunde über den Mount
O'Connor nach The Bottom, der Hauptstadt von Saba führte. Ich schlenderte durch
das schmucke Städtchen zum andern Ende, wo The Ladder startet: 400 Treppen
hinunter zum Meer und natürlich wieder rauf! - Ja, Saba ist die Treppeninsel!
Diese Treppe wurde übrigens 1938 gebaut um Güter zu befördern.
On Monday I attacked the Crispeen Trail, which took me over Mount O'Connor to The Bottom, the capital of Saba, in an hour. I strolled through the pretty little town to the other end, where The Ladder starts: 400 steps down to the sea and of course back up again! - Yes, Saba is the island of stairs! Incidentally, these stairs were built in 1938 to transport goods.

Nach
diesen körperlichen Anstrengungen brauchte mein Körper eine Pause und prompt
bescherte der Tag Regen und Stromausfall! Als es aufklärte, fuhr Cyril mit mir
zum Flughafen - übrigens mit der kürzesten kommerziellen Landebahn auf unserem Planeten.
Dort gibt es eine Kletterpartie durch das erstarrte Lavageröll zu den
Gezeitenbecken The Tidepools... Die See war aber zu unruhig um in die Fluten zu
steigen, so machten wir Rast auf Liegestühlen in Cove Bay beim künstlich
angelegten Meerbecken, wo es absolut herrlich ist im Wasser zu verweilen! : )

After these physical exertions, my body needed a break and the day
promptly brought rain and a electricity cuts! When it cleared up, Cyril drove
me to the airport - which has the shortest commercial runway on our planet.
There you can climb through the solidified lava rubble to the tide pools... But
the sea was too rough to get into the water, so we rested on deck chairs in
Cove Bay by the artificial sea pool, where it is absolutely wonderful to linger
in the ocean! : )
