Am
Dienstag machte ich mich auf um die Ostküste von St. Martin zu erforschen… Ich
fuhr so viel wie möglich entlang der Küste durch Orient Bay nach Oyster Point, das
2007 von einem Hurrikan zerstört wurde. Dort spähte ich auch zum holländischen
Sint Maarten hinüber, das aussah wie irgendwo in den USA… Auf dem Rückweg stoppte
ich im Orient Bay und kehrte ins Pirate Hideout (https://www.facebook.com/piratehideoutsxm) ein – einfach nur herrlich! : )
On Tuesday I set out to explore the east coast of St. Martin... I drove as much as possible along the coast through Orient Bay to Oyster Point, which was destroyed by a hurricane in 2007. There I also looked over to the Dutch island of Sint Maarten, which looked like somewhere in the US... On the way back I stopped in Orient Bay at the Pirate Hideout (https://www.facebook.com/piratehideoutsxm) - just great! : )

Mittwoch
standen meine Lieblingstiere auf meinem Programm: Vögel! : ) Ich fuhr wie
gestern wieder an die Grenze, aber diesmal der Hauptstrasse entlang. Im Parotte Ville (https://www.facebook.com/parotteville/?locale=fr_FR),
Belvedere hält Valentine 150 handzahme Papageien (27 Arten) in einer riesigen
Voliere, die man für USD10 mit einem Futternapf bestückt betreten und bestaunen
kann. Er erzählte mir, dass einige Arten sich sogar kreuzen… ob sie wohl auch
eine universelle Sprache kreieren?
On Wednesday my favourite animals were on my agenda: birds! : ) Like yesterday I drove to the border, but this time along the main road. At Parotte Ville (https://www.facebook.com/parotteville/?locale=fr_FR) in Belvedere, Valentine keeps 150 tame parrots (27 species) in a huge aviary, which you can enter and marvel at for USD10 with a feeding bowl. He told me that some species even interbreed... I wonder if they also create an universal language?

Am
Nachmittag ging es weiter zur hübschen holländischen Hauptstadt Philipsburg mir
vieeelen Duty Free Geschäften. Hier bezahlt man mit dem US Dollar, der äquivalent
mit dem Euro gehandelt wird. Es war unbeschreiblich heiss und ich sehnte mich
nach einem hübschen Strand… so fuhr ich in die nächste Bucht, der Little Bay –
aber auch hier war alles überbaut, so dass mein Aufenthalt kürzer dauerte als
gedacht und ich mich zurück nach Philipsburg machte, um ein frühes Abendessen
zu geniessen. Und schon bald fand ich mich im Shelljen bei der sympathischen Akeelah
ein! : ) - Nur verstehe ich die Preispolitik im holländischen Teil nicht ganz:
Benzin kostet fast das Doppelte (im französischen Teil EUR 1.25) und die Preise
sind überhaupt nicht transparent… meist bezahlt man den angeschriebenen Preis, aber
Akeelah haute mir auf USD 28 noch 20% Taxen und
5% Kartenbenutzung drauf! - Das Essen war sehr lecker aber sicher nicht
den Preis von USD 45 wert! : (

In the afternoon I continued to the beautiful Dutch capital Philipsburg
with lots of duty free shops. Here you pay with the US dollar, which is traded
equivalent to the euro. It was unbelievably hot and I was longing for a pretty
beach... so I drove to the next bay, Little Bay - but here too everything was
built over, so my stay was shorter than I thought and I headed back to
Philipsburg to enjoy an early dinner. And soon I found myself in Shelljen with
the friendly Akeelah! : ) - But I don't quite understand the pricing policy in
the Dutch part: petrol costs almost twice as much (EUR 1.25 in the French part)
and the prices are not transparent at all... usually I paid the price which is
indicated, but Akeelah added 20% for taxes and 5% for card usage to my USD 28!
- The food was very tasty but certainly not worth the price of USD 45! : (
