Nach 5 Monaten in der nassen kalten Schweiz, sehnte ich mich nach Wärme… und nachdem ich in dieser Zeit all meine Probleme mit der Bank, meinem Lager und meiner Rente für nächstes Jahr gelöst hatte, war ich bereit für das Paradies…

Es war kein Zuckerschlecken es zu erreichen: Nach einer kurzen Nacht stand ich um 3:30 Uhr auf und Bea fuhr mich eine Stunde später zum Flughafen Zürich (Danke, auch für das Deponieren meiner Autonummerschilder!). Man musste ziemlich lange anstehen beim Check-in… dafür checkte der netter Herr am Schalter mein 2. Gepäckstück gratis ein! : )

After 5 months in wet, cold Switzerland, I was longing for warmth... and after I had solved all my problems with the bank, my storage and my pension for next year, I was ready for paradise...

It was no picnic to get there: After a short night, I got up at 3:30 a.m. and Bea drove me to Zurich airport an hour later (thanks, also for depositing my car license plates!). There was quite a long queue at check-in... but the nice gentleman at the counter checked in my 2nd piece of luggage for free! : )

Der KLM (www.klm.com) Flug KL1916 sollte um 7 Uhr in Zürich starten, aber er hatte eine 1/2 Stunde Verspätung – ob ich es wohl auf meinen Anschlussflug nach Sint Maarten in Amsterdam schaffen werde? Nur gerade 1 Stunde Transfer war eingerechnet… Kurz vor der Landung wurde durchgesagt, dass alle Verbindungsflüge erreicht werden können – es gibt eine Express Reihe, wo man schnell durch den Zoll kommt… Und so war es: Um 9 Uhr bordete ich für den Flug KL0787, der eigentlich um 9:35 starten sollte… aber wir hoben mit 1 Stunde Verspätung ab.

The KLM (www.klm.com) flight KL1916 was supposed to take off from Zurich at 7 am, but it was 1/2 hour late - will I make it to my connecting flight to Sint Maarten in Amsterdam? Only a 1 hour transfer was reckoned... Shortly before landing, it was announced that all connecting flights could be reached - there is an express line where you can get through customs quickly... And so it was: At 9 am I boarded flight KL0787, which was scheduled to take off at 9:35... but we took off with an hour delay.

Nach einem 8 Stunden Flug erreichten wir um 13:30 die Karibikinsel Sint Maarten (holländisch 35 km²) oder St. Martin (französisch 53 km²). Aber leider ohne meine Koffer, bemerkte ich nach einem stündigen Ankunftsprozedere… sie werden morgen mit dem nächsten Flug ankommen und ich erhalte EUR 100 pro Tag, bis alle Koffer da sind! - Dann nichts wie los um ein Bikini, Flipflops, Sommerkleid und das Allernötigste zu kaufen!

Ein Shuttlebus brachte mich zur Autovermietung Mex Rent a Car (https://mexrentacar.com/en/locations/43-rent-a-car-st-maarten-airport), wo ich von Jebel einen Chevrolet Spark erhielt. Der hatte sooo viele Kratzer und Dellen, dass es auf ein paar mehr sicher nicht ankommen wird! Mein erster Stopp quer durch die ganze Insel (ca. 9x10 km) war ein grosser Supermarket in der französischen Hauptstadt Marigot. Ich war müde und wollte nach dieser langen Reise eigentlich nur noch in mein Studio und schlafen.. Noch etwas näher in Grand Case, machte ich einen Essensrast an einem der Lolo Restaurants und fand einen äusserst netten Laden mit fast allem, was ich benötigte: Peace and Love (https://www.facebook.com/peaceandlovesxm). : )

After an 8-hour flight, we reached the Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten (Dutch 35 km²) or St. Martin (French 53 km²) at 1:30 pm. But unfortunately without my suitcases, I noticed after an hour-long arrival procedure... they will arrive tomorrow on the next flight and I will receive EUR 100 per day until all the suitcases arrived! - Then there’s nothing but off to buy a bikini, flip flops, a summer dress and what is really necessary!

A shuttle bus took me to the car rental company Mex Rent a Car (https://mexrentacar.com/en/locations/43-rent-a-car-st-maarten-airport), where I got a Chevrolet Spark from Jebel. It was covered with sooo many scratches and dents that a few more wouldn't make a difference! My first stop across the whole island (approx. 9x10 km) was a large supermarket in the French capital Marigot. I was tired and after this long journey I just wanted to go to my studio and sleep. A little closer in Grand Case I stopped for a bite to eat at one of the Lolo restaurants and found a really nice shop with almost everything I needed: Peace and Love (https://www.facebook.com/peaceandlovesxm). : )

Um 16:30 kam ich bei den charmanten Bruno & Carole der Studios St. Martin (https://www.studiostmartin.com)  in Cul de Sac an und erhielt ein äusserst hübsches Studio – ja, ich bin definitiv im Paradies angekommen! - Zwar ohne Koffer, aber wer braucht schon viele Kleider hier!? ; )

At 4:30 pm I arrived at charming Bruno & Carole of Studios St. Martin (https://www.studiostmartin.com) in Cul de Sac and was given a very pretty studio - yes, I have definitely arrived in paradise! - Without a suitcase, but who needs a lot of clothes here!? ; )
