Damian (Mr.kmmarshall@gmail.com), der mich am Samstag vom
Flughafen zum Castle Berry Apartments (+1-784-4953373) gefahren hatte, bietet als
erfahrener Einheimischer auch Tagestouren an… So kam es, dass wir uns heute aufmachten
die Westküste der 30 x 12 km kleinen Insel zu erforschen… aber zuerst Frühstück
der Bäckerei Food Basket (https://www.skyviews.com/st-vincent-and-the-grenadines-map/food-basket-bakery.html) und frische Säfte bei Damians Schwester in Arnos Vale für
unterwegs kaufen…
Damian (Mr.kmmarshall@gmail.com), who drove me from the airport to Castle Berry Apartments (+1-784-4953373) on Saturday, is an experienced local and also offers day tours... That’s why it came that we set out today to explore the west coast of the 30 x 12 km small island... but first buy breakfast from the bakery Food Basket (https://www.skyviews.com/st-vincent-and-the-grenadines-map/food-basket-bakery.html) and fresh juices from Damian's sister in Arnos Vale for the journey...

Seit über 20 Jahren, als ich das letzte Mal hier
war, hat es seeehr viel mehr Verkehr und Häuser! Die ganzen Hänge sind verbaut…
es hat zwar weniger Einwohner als 2004 – vor allem nach Covid, einem Vulkanausbruch
im 2021 und ein schlimmer Hurrikan letztes Jahr! Aber die Menschen haben jetzt
Geld und bauen Häuser... früher lebten sie sehr einfach und klein… Und der
Tourismus sollte ebenfalls grösser werden: Es hat schon Kreuzfahrtschiffe, nur
kleine – aber der neue Hafen ist in Bau! – Bald wird auch diese Insel im
Kreuzfahrttakt ticken!
Since over 20 years, when I was last here, there has been a looot more traffic and houses! All the hillsides are built up... there are fewer inhabitants than in 2004 – especially after Covid, a volcanic eruption in 2021 and a bad hurricane last year! But people have money now are building houses... they used to live very simply and small... Also tourism should become bigger: There are already cruise ships, only small ones - but the new port is under construction! – Soon this island will also be ticking in the rhythm of the cruise ships!

Je näher wir dem aktiven Vulkan Soufrière (1235 m) kamen,
desto zerklüftete wurde das Bild… 2021 veränderte er mit seiner Lava die
Landschaft und verbreitete Asche weit über St. Vincent hinaus in die Karibik… sehr
wahrscheinlich hat er auch den Zugang zum Vulkan verschüttet, den ich 2004 nahm?
Das Schlimmste aber war, dass alles Wasser auf der Insel voller Asche war! : (
The closer we got to the active volcano Soufrière (1235 m), the more rugged the picture became… In 2021 it changed the landscape with its lava and spread ash far beyond St. Vincent into the Caribbean… it probably also buried the entrance to the volcano that I took in 2004? But the worst thing was that all the water on the island was full of ash! : (

Es war eine lange kurvenreiche Fahrt bis nach
Richmond, wo die Strasse aufhört – nun ging es die 52 km wieder zurück: Sicht von
der andern Seite und eine Bade- und Mittagessenspause in der Pirates Bar an der
Wallibalou Beach in Barriouallie mit der Kulisse der Piraten der Karibik.

It was a
long, winding drive to Richmond, where the road ends – now it was 52 km back:
view from the other side and a swim and lunch break at the Pirates Bar on
Wallibalou Beach in Barriouallie with the backdrop of the Pirates of the
Caribbean.
