Am Samstag brachte mich Damian (Mr.kmmarshall@gmail.com) nach Kingstown zur Fähre Bequia Express (https://bequiaexpress.com). Wie bereits erwähnt, ist das Reisen in den Grenadinen und Grenada zur Zeit nicht gerade einfach seit der Hurrikan letzten Sommer vieles zerstört hat. Eine Fähre ist noch stets unauffindbar und natürlich muss zuerst wieder alles aufgebaut werden... Der Bequia Express fährt von St. Vincent nicht nur fast stündlich zur Nachbarinsel Baquia, sondern momentan am Montag, Mittwoch und Donnerstag bis nach Union Island der Grenadinen. Im Moment sind diese Fahrten gratis, man muss sich aber in der Hafenbehörde registrieren und einen Pass abholen. Und dies wollte ich eigentlich erledigen, nur ist die Hafenbehörde am Samstag und Sonntag geschlossen.

On Saturday Damian (Mr.kmmarshall@gmail.com) drove me to Kingstown to the Bequia Express ferry (https://bequiaexpress.com). As already mentioned, travelling in the Grenadines and Grenada is currently not exactly easy since the hurricane destroyed a lot last summer. One ferry is still missing and of course everything has to be rebuilt first... The Bequia Express not only runs from St. Vincent to the neighbouring island of Baquia almost every hour, but for the moment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to Union Island in the Grenadines. Right now these trips are free, but you have to register at the port authority and pick up a pass. And that’s what I actually wanted to do, but the port authority is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Aber zuerst ging es nach Bequia. Um 11 Uhr verliess die Fähre St. Vincent und 1 Stunde später kamen wir in Bequia an. Ich war 2004 schon mal für ein paar Tage hier im Zusammenhang mit St. Vincent und Barbados. Schon der Anblick von weitem war ein ganz anders Bild, als ich es in Erinnerung hatte: Port Elizabeth hat sich zu einem farbenfrohen und lebhaften Ort gemausert! : )

But first it went to Bequia. The ferry left St. Vincent at 11 a. and 1 hour later we arrived in Bequia. I was here for a few days in 2004 in connection with St. Vincent and Barbados. The view from afar was a completely different picture than I remembered: Port Elizabeth has blossomed into a colourful and lively place! : )

Normalerweise buche ich meine Unterkünfte direkt, aber auf Bequia schien ist schwierig zu sein... und eher teuer... Ich finde Booking.com (https://www.booking.com) eine geniale Plattform, hatte dort etwas am Meer gefunden und das Hotel persönlich kontaktiert. Ich erhielt aber erst gar keine Antwort und dann den Verweis auf ihre Webseite... Der Preis auf der Webseite war aber 25 % teurer, deshalb buchte ich schlussendlich zwei Nächte via Booking.com. Die Überraschung war gross, als der Shuttle Bass des Spring Hotel Bequia mich nicht an die Bucht fuhr, wo es auf allen Karten vermerkt ist, sondern in die Hügel! Ich sprach den Fahrer an, der schroff antwortete: Das ist, wo das Hotel ist. - Natürlich zeigte ich meine Enttäuschung auch an Rezeption... die Angestellte war buchstäblich sprachlos, auch als ich ihr sagte, ich sei sicher nicht die erste Person, die das anspricht!? - Niemand übernahm Stellung oder konnte mich an jemanden Verantwortlichen verweisen... alles, was ich tun konnte war, dem Hotel ein e-mail zu schreiben um meine Enttäuschung auszudrücken - ob ich eine Antwort erhalte oder nicht! : (( Als ich mich beruhigt hatte und herausfand, dass es einen Shuttle nach Port Elizabeth gibt, bezog ich mein Zimmer und erhielt eine wunderschöne Suite mit herrlicher Aussicht. - Trotzdem, ich fühle mich betrogen! : (

I usually book my accommodation directly, but on Bequia it seemed difficult... and rather expensive... I think Booking.com (https://www.booking.com) is a brilliant platform, I found something by the sea and contacted the hotel personally. But I didn't receive any response at first and then I was referred to their website... The price on the website was 25% more expensive, so I ended up booking two nights via Booking.com. I was very surprised when the shuttle bus from the Spring Hotel Bequia didn't take me to the bay, where it is marked on all maps, but to the hills! I spoke to the driver, who replied brusquely: That's where the hotel is. - Of course, I also expressed my disappointment at reception... the employee was literally speechless, even when I told her that I was certainly not the first person to mention that!? - No one took a stand or could refer me to someone responsible... all I could do was write an e-mail to the hotel to express my disappointment - whether I get a reply or not! : (( When I had calmed down and found out that there was a shuttle to Port Elizabeth, I took the room and was given a beautiful suite with a wonderful view. - Still, I feel cheated! : (

Es sind ja nur zwei Nächte... also los etwas unternehmen! So machte ich mich gleich auf einen zweistündigen Spaziergang der Nordostküste entlang: Spring und Industry Bay bis zur Turtle Schutzgebiet, das leider vom Hurrikan letzten Sommer weggewischt wurde.

Am Abend trieb mich ein Hüngerchen ins Hotelrestaurant... aber ich fühlte mich dort nicht sehr wohl, weil niemand mit mir sprechen wollte... alle waren abweisend... Ich bestellte mir ein Eis, das ich in meinem Zimmer mit Arbeit genoss...

It's only for two nights... so let's go and do something! I set off on a two-hour walk along the northeast coast: Spring and Industry Bay to the turtle sanctuary, which was unfortunately wiped out by the hurricane last summer.

In the evening, a little hunger drove me to the hotel restaurant... but I didn't feel very comfortable there because nobody wanted to talk to me... everybody was dismissive... I ordered an ice cream, which I enjoyed in my room with work...

Am Sonntagmorgen setzte ich mich ins Hotelrestaurant, das Frühstück war inbegriffen. Ich glaube, ich habe noch nie in meinem Leben, und sicherlich in einem gediegenen Hotel, solch ein mickriges Frühstück vorgesetzt gekriegt: Auf meinem Teller hatte es je drei kleine Stücke Apfel, Sternfrucht und Toast, eine winzige Menge Margarine und Marmelade. Dazu gab es Kaffee oder Tee. Eigentlich hätte ich es fotografieren sollen, obschon es es alles andere als wert war!?

Ich nahm den 12 Uhr Shuttle nach Port Elizabeth und unternahm eine dreistündige Rundwanderung auf der 18 km² kleinen Insel mit 5000 Einwohnern: Auf dem Belmont Walkway zu den Stränden Princess Margaret und Lower Bay - genial! : )

On Sunday morning, I sat down in the hotel restaurant, breakfast was included. I don't think I've ever had such a puny breakfast in my life, certainly not in a decent hotel: On my plate there were each three small pieces of apple, star fruit and toast, a tiny amount of margarine and jam. Coffee or tea was served with it. - I actually should have taken a photo of it, although it was definitely not worth it!?

I took the noon shuttle to Port Elizabeth and went on a three-hour circular walk around the 18 km² small island with 5000 inhabitants: On the Belmont Walkway to the Princess Margaret and Lower Bay beaches - brilliant! : )

Von dort ging es auf den Peggy Peak (275 m) mit einem fantastischen Rundblick über die ganzen Insel! : ) Runter ging ich auf die Ostseite zur Friendship Bay, der ich entlang spazierte und dann zurück zur Westseite überquerte. Ich landete am Princess Margret Beach und spazierte den Belmont Walkway zurück nach Port Elizabeth, wo ich um 17 Uhr den Shuttle zurück ins Hotel nahm.

there I went uphill to Peggy Peak (275 m) with a fantastic panoramic view of the whole island! : ) Down I went to the east side to Friendship Bay, which I walked along and then crossed back to the west side of the island. I ended up at Princess Margret Beach and walked the Belmont Walkway back to Port Elizabeth, where I took the shuttle back to the hotel at 5 pm.
