Kein Zweifel: Der Hurrikan Beryl hatte das 3 x 10 km kleine Carriacou am
schwersten erwischt! Fitzroy sagte mir, dass das Auge des Hurrikans direkt auf
Carriacou war... Erstaunlich wie vieles bereits wieder aufgebaut ist nach einem
halben Jahr...
Der Hurrikan Beryl wütete im Juni und Juli 2024 mit
Stufe 4 und 5 in der Karibik, das heisst: Winde um 250 km/h! Dies verursachte Todesopfer
und verheerende Zerstörungen auf vielen Inseln in der ganzen Karibik. Besonders
betroffen waren Carriacou (Grenada) und die Grenadinen (St. Vincent).
When you see the mountains full of metal and debris as well as boats in huge piles or pressed together, it's horrifying... - There's no doubt about it: Hurricane Beryl hit the 3 x 10 km small Carriacou the hardest! Fitzroy told me that the eye of the hurricane was directly on Carriacou... It's amazing how much has already been rebuilt after half a year...
Hurricane Beryl raged in the Caribbean in June and July 2024 with levels 4 and 5, which means winds of around 250 km/h! This caused deaths and devastating destruction on many islands throughout the Caribbean. Carriacou (Grenada) and the Grenadines (St. Vincent) were particularly affected.

Am Montag hatte ich vor die Ostküste Carriacous
abzuwandern... Ich versuchte es per Autostopp bis ein Bus kam und das erste
Auto nahm mich mit nach Hillsborough! Von dort hielt gleich wieder das erste
Auto an und brachte mich nach Mount Pleasant - klappt super hier! : )
Von Mount Pleasant wanderte ich 3 Stunden auf guten
Wanderwegen (d.h. kein Gestüpp versteckte sie!) zuerst nach Jew Bay Richtung
Norden, dann zurück und über Dumfries Point nach Six Roads. Herrlich wild -
ausser Kühen, Schafen und Ziegen bin ich keiner Seele begegnet. In Six Roads
nahm ich den Bus zurück nach Tyrell Bay oder Harvey Vale oder Argyle? - Kein
Mensch konnte mir beantworten, weshalb dieser Ort 3 verschiedene Namen hat?
On Monday I was planning to hike to the east coast of Carriacou... I tried hitchhiking until a bus came and the first car took me to Hillsborough! From there the first car stopped again and I got a ride to Mount Pleasant - it works great here! : )
From Mount Pleasant I hiked for 3 hours on good hiking trails (i.e. no undergrowth hiding them!) first to Jew Bay heading north, then back and via Dumfries Point to Six Roads. Fantastically wild - apart from cows, sheep and goats I didn't meet a soul. In Six Roads I took the bus back to Tyrell Bay or Harvey Vale or Argyle? - No one could give me an answer why this place has 3 different names?

Meinen letzten Tag auf Carriacou nahm ich
gemütlich... ich genoss mein The Boat House Studio (+1
473-403-0986) mit viel Arbeit, Vorbereitung meiner Weiterreise und Packen...
und einer Pause am Strand. Am Abend beschloss ich, mein letztes Abendessen im
Gallery Bistro (https://www.facebook.com/carriacougallerybistro) einzunehmen: Ein hübsches Restaurant mit gutem Essen und
den fröhlichen Wirten Anne und John - das perfekte Ende für eine grandiose
Woche auf Carriacou! : )

I took my
last day on Carriacou very leisurely... I enjoyed my The Boat House Studio (+1 473-403-0986) with a lot of work, preparing for
my onward journey and packing... and a break on the beach below. In the evening
I decided to have my last dinner at the Gallery Bistro (https://www.facebook.com/carriacougallerybistro): A
lovely restaurant with good food and the cheerful hosts Anne and John - the
perfect end to a fantastic week on Carriacou! : )
