Hab ich gut geschlafen im Castle Berry Apartments
(+1-784-4953373)! - Ein herrliches Bett mit wunderbaren Kissen, Ruhe und keine
einzige Mücke! : ) Ich genoss meinen erholsamen Schlaf jede Nacht, ging so um
20 Uhr ins Bett und erwachte meist zwischen 5 und 6.
Auf St. Vincent werden wenigsten die Plastikflaschen eingesammelt und nach Trinidad verkauft... die werden zumeist in den Abfallhallen separiert... Ich finde jeder sollte über Abfall und Receycling Bescheid wissen und seinen Dreck selber wegräumen!?
I slept very well at the Castle Berry Apartments (+1-784-4953373)! - A comfortable bed with wonderful pillows, very quiet and not a single mosquito! : ) I enjoyed my restful sleep every night, went to bed around 8 pm and usually woke up between 5 and 6.
On St. Vincent, at least the plastic bottles are collected and sold to Trinidad... they are usually separated in the garbage halls... I think everyone should know about garbage and recycling and clean up their own rubbish!?

Am Dienstag nahm ich den Bus in die Stadt und bemerkte
gleich, dass die hier auf St. Vincent ganz speziell sind: nicht nur äusserlich
aufgemotzt – es sind fahrende Diskotheken mit einem Konduktor, der alle
Passagiere im Griff hat, mit den Einkaufstaschen hilft und die meisten kennt!
Für kurze Strecken braucht man nicht unbedingt Ohrstöpsel! ; )
Mein erster Stopp in Kingstown war die Hafenbehörde
am im Hafen, denn ich fand keine zuverlässigen Informationen über Fähren in den
Grenadinen... mittlerweile weiss ich, dass seit dem Hurrikan letzten Sommer die
Fahrpläne immer wieder ändern und ein Schiff unauffindbar ist, sehr
wahrscheinlich gesunken... Nach dem Besuch der Hafenbehörde wusste ich mehr: Die
Fähren zu den Grenadinen werden subventioniert und sind für Reisende gratis...
und Union Island ist momentan nur für Einwohner offen - ich muss vor der Fahrt
persönlich eine Bewilligung einholen.
On Tuesday I took the bus into town and noticed straight away that they are very special here on St. Vincent: not only are they pimped out on the outside - but they are also mobile discotheques with a conductor who keeps all the passengers under control, helps with the shopping bags and knows most of them! You don't necessarily need earplugs for short journeys! ; )
My first stop in Kingstown was the port authority at the port, because I couldn't find any reliable information about ferries in the Grenadines... I now know that since the hurricane last summer, the timetables keep changing and one ship cannot be found, most likely sunk... After visiting the port authority, I knew more: The ferries to the Grenadines are subsidized and free for travellers... and Union Island is currently only open to residents - I have to get a permit in person before traveling.

Mein zweiter Halt in Kingstown galt dem botanischen
Garten, am andern Ende der Stadt. Dort liess ich eine Weile meinen Körper
ruhen, meine Seele baumeln und meinen Geist fliegen... bevor ich mit einem
Discobus zurück nach Brighton sauste…
My second stop in Kingstown was the Botanical Gardens at the other end of town. There I let my body rest for a while, my soul dangle and my mind fly... before I breezed back to Brighton on a disco bus...

Am Mittwoch versuchte ich es mit Autostopp bis ein Bus kommen würde – und es funktioniert auch hier auf St. Vincent! Ein netter Herr brachte mich nach Arnos Vale und von dort ein weiterer netter Herr nach Kingstown! : ) Dort nahm ich einen Bus nach Vermont im Buccament Valley, spazierte eine halbe Stunde aufwärts bis zum Natural Trail und wanderte dann eine Stunde im Matsch zum St. Vincent Papageien Aussichtspunkt und zurück. Ich sah und vor allem hörte zahlreiche Papageien, sie waren aber zu weit weg um auf einem Foto zu Enden.
On Wednesday I tried hitchhiking until a bus would come - and it works here on St. Vincent too! A nice gentleman took me to Arnos Vale and from there another nice gentleman took me to Kingstown! : ) There I got a bus to Vermont in Buccament Valley, walked half an hour up to the Natural Trail and then hiked an hour in the mud to the St. Vincent parrot lookout point and back. I saw and especially heard numerous parrots, but they were too far away to end up in a photo.

Wie bereits erwähnt, hat es sehr viel Verkehr auf
St. Vincent, vor allem in den Stosszeiten am Morgen und Abend. Denzel fuhr mich
von Vermont nach Kingstown, wo ich im Sinn hatte etwas zu essen und später den
Bus nach Brighton zu nehmen… denn die Busse sind am Abend ebenfalls überfüllt,
was lange Wartezeiten in Kauf nimmt… Als ich um 19 Uhr bei der Bushaltestelle
ankam, war diese noch voller Leute und ich wartete eine gestrichene halbe
Stunde, bis ich einen nach Brighton erwischte! Lustigerweise den, den ich
gestern am Morgen nahm – das heisst: er fährt ins Dorf und mein Restweg nach
Hause ist erheblich kürzer! : )

As
already mentioned, there is a lot of traffic on St. Vincent, especially during
rush hours in the morning and evening. Denzel drove me from Vermont to
Kingstown, where I planned to have something to eat and later take the bus to
Brighton... because the buses are also overcrowded in the eveninga, which means
long waits... When I arrived at the bus stop at 7 pm, it was still full of
people and I waited a solid half hour until I caught one to Brighton! Funnily
enough, it was the one I took yesterday morning - that means: It drives into
the village and my remaining journey home is considerably shorter! : )
