Castara
ist ein kleiner, gemütlicher Ort etwa in der Mitte der Nordküste der 300 km2
kleinen Insel Tobago (ca. 60'000 Einwohnern). Es hat alles was man braucht:
einen Laden, viele Bars und Restaurants, sowie einen herrlichen Strand und
einen Wasserfall mit grossem Pool zum Baden! : ) Die Preise in Trinidad und
Tobago sind erheblich tiefer als auf den andern überteuerten Inseln der Kleinen
Antillen – hier werde ich nicht so oft selber kochen…
Castara is a small, cozy town located roughly halfway along the north coast of the 300 km² island of Tobago (population: approx.. 60,000). There is everything you need: a shop, plenty of bars and restaurants, as well as a beautiful beach and a waterfall with a large pool for swimming! : ) Prices in Trinidad and Tobago are considerably lower than on the other overpriced islands of the Lesser Antilles – I won't be cooking for myself very often here…

Morgens
weckten mich die Gockel, die so um 4 Uhr einen Rundschrei starten… dann kommen
viele verschiedene Vogelstimmen (250 verschiedene Arten gibt es auf Tobago!)
dazu, die bald vom lauten Papageiengekrächze übertönt werden… Das stört mich
alles nicht - im Gegenteil: Ich erwache eh früh morgens und wünschte ich könnte meine gefiederten Freunde
verstehen! Schlimm sind die Rudel der wilden Hunde, die wie vielerorts nachts
das Revier der Menschen übernehmen.
In the morning, I was woken up by the chickens, which start a round of crowing around 4 am. Then, many different bird calls (there are 250 different species on Tobago!) join in, which are soon drowned out by the loud croaking of parrots… None of this bothers me – on the contrary: I wake up early anyhow and wish I could understand my feathered friends! The packs of wild dogs that, like in many places, take over people's territory at night are a real nightmare.

Wie immer
inspizierte ich meine neue Umgebung mit Jogging oder einem Spaziergang. Hier
ist es sehr hügelig, es gibt also keine langen Laufstrecken, denn immer wieder muss
man klettern oder einen Weg extrem steil auf und ab suchen.... Auf meinem
Spaziergang durch Castara fand ich den Castara Wasserfall: Genau, was ich
brauche in der hitzigen Nachmittagszeit! : )

As
always, I explored my new surroundings by a run and a walk. It's very hilly
here, so there are no long stretches for running, as you're constantly having
to climb or find a path up and down extremely steep hills... On my walk through
Castara, I found the Castara Waterfall: Exactly what I needed in the heat of
the afternoon! : )
