Plötzlich bemerkte eine Irritation in meinem rechten Auge, wie etwas zwischen dem Auge und der Haut... oder doch lieber ein Mückenstich!? ; ) Ich hatte bereits vor einem halben Jahr in der Schweiz eine Augeninfektion an beiden Augen und noch etwas Creme übrig, die ich aufbrauchte. Am nächsten Tag war mein Auge nicht schlimmer, aber auch nicht besser... so beschloss ich das Gesundheitszentrum in Castara aufzusuchen. Die nette Ärztin schickte mich in den nächsten grösseren Ort Moriah, wo es einen Augenarzt gibt...

Und so lernte ich das Bussystem PTSC (https://ptsc.co.tt) in Tobago kennen: Es gibt nur grosse Busse, also keine Minivans wie auf den anderen Karibik Inseln. Der Vorteil: Es gibt immer einen bequemen Sitz und man bezahlt ein Minimum an Preis (zum Beispiel eine 40 Minuten Fahrt von Scarborough nach Castara kostet 8 TT Dollars, das ist 1 EUR). Aber der Nachteil: Man muss Tickets vor der Fahrt kaufen (das sind Geldwerte von 1-5 TTD) und kann nicht auf dem Bus bezahlen... der Bus fährt 1-4 stündlich (Wochenende fanz selten) und er ist viel zu gross für die steilen, schmalen und kurvenreichen Strassen hier auf Tobago!  

Beim Arzt in Moriah war meine Infektion zweitrangig, denn plötzlich tauchte eine Schlange auf. Sie war zwar ziemlich dünn, aber sehr lang und zeigte uns ihr grosses bissiges Maul! Es gibt zwar offiziell keine giftigen Schlangen auf Tobago, aber eine private könnte abgehauen sein? Und auch von dieser kleinen Schlange möchte ich nicht gebissen werden! Wir entschieden für Achtsamkeit und sie nach draussen zu befördern, was uns nach einer Weile gelang.

Suddenly, I noticed an irritation in my right eye, like something between my eye and my skin... or would I rather it being a mosquito bite? ; ) I had an eye infection in both eyes six months ago in Switzerland and still had some cream left, which I used up. The next day, my eye wasn't worse, but it wasn't better either... so I decided to visit the health centre in Castara. The nice doctor sent me to the nearest larger village Moriah, where there's an eye doctor...

And that's how I got to know the PTSC bus system (https://ptsc.co.tt) in Tobago: There are only large buses, not minivans like on the other Caribbean islands. The advantage: There's always a comfortable seat, and you pay a minimum of price (for example, a 40-minute ride from Scarborough to Castara costs 8 TT dollars, which is 1 EUR). But the downside: You must buy tickets in advance (they're worth 1-5 TTD) and can't pay on the bus... the bus runs every 1-4 hours (very rarely on weekends) and is much too big for the steep, narrow, and winding roads here in Tobago!

At the doctor's in Moriah, my infection was secondary because suddenly a snake appeared. It was quite thin, but very long and showed us its large, bity mouth! There are officially no venomous snakes in Tobago, but could a private one have escaped? And I wouldn't want to be bitten by that little snake either! We decided to be mindful and get it outside, which we managed to do after a while.

Zurück zu meinem Auge: Der Arzt gab mir ein Rezept für Augentropfen und Antibiotika, die ich in der Hauptstadt Scarborough abholen konnte. Ein Privattaxi brachte mich für 10 TTD (EUR 1.50 - auch dies extrem günstig!) zur Apotheke und ich hatte Zeit die Stadt zu erkunden. Auf der Esplanade fand ich das Smoke House (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063238898844), wo viele Leute anstanden, so auch ich - was sich lohnte! : )

Back to my eye: The doctor gave me a prescription for eye drops and antibiotics, which I could pick up in the capital Scarborough. A private taxi took me to the pharmacy for 10 TTD (EUR 1.50 - also extremely cheap!), and I had time to explore town. On the esplanade, I found the Smoke House (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063238898844), where there were lots of people queuing, including me - which was worth it! : )

Nach einer Siesta im botanischen Garten und eine Einkaufsrunde durch die Märkte befand ich mich kurz nach 16 Uhr beim Busstop, der Bus sollte in einer halben Stunde hier eintreffen um Richtung Castara zu fahren. Kurz vor halb 5 kam ein grosser Bus, der kein Schild hatte in welche Richtung erfahren würde. In der grossen Hitze mit wenig Schatten hatten sich die Menschen auf der ganzen Strasse auf beiden Strassenseiten vesammelt und als der Bus anhielt, rannten alle zum Bus. Der Bus fuhr 20 Meter weiter, hielt wieder an bis alle Passagieren vor der Tür standen und rückte wieder 20 m weiter. Der Fahrer wiederholte das Spiel einige Male und hatte seine Freude daran! - Ich war froh, dass es nicht mein Bus war, der dann einige Minuten später mit einem Schild versehen eintraf. Aber auch mein Fahrer war ein gemeiner Kerl, denn als der Bus fast voll war und er es einer Person mitteilte, sagte er: Schau dir ihr Gesicht an nach meiner Antwort! : ((

After a siesta in the botanical garden and a shopping trip through the markets, I found myself at the bus stop shortly after 4 pm. The bus was due to arrive in half an hour and head towards Castara. Shortly before 4:30 am a large bus arrived with no sign indicating which direction it would go. In the intense heat and with little shade, people had gathered all along the street on both sides, and when the bus stopped, everyone ran to the bus. The bus drove 20 meters further, stopped again until all the passengers were standing in front of the door and moved another 20 meters. The driver repeated the game several times and had a blast! I was glad it wasn't my bus, which arrived a few minutes later with a sign. But also my driver was a mean guy, because when the bus was almost full and he told the next person someone, he said: Watch her face after my answer! : ((

Wie bereits gesagt, die grossen Sitze sind bequem und ich war froh, als ich heil zurück in Castara ankam. Nun konnte ich mich der Heilung meiner Blessürchen widmen - mit Hilfe des heilenden Wassers des Meeres in der Big Bay und Little Bay sowie des Castara Wasserfalles! : )

As I said, the large seats in the busses are comfortable and I was happy to arrive back in Castara safely. Now I could devote myself to healing my little aches - with the help of the healing waters of the ocean in Big Bay and Little Bay, as well as of the the Castara waterfall! : ))
