Der
Vulkan Soufrière legte 1995-2010 nicht nur 2/3 der Insel in Asche, sondern
beschert auch sehr fruchtbares Land... jeden Tag mehr: Seit 2010 ist Monserrat
1/3 gewachsen! Die momentan 105 km2 (16 x 11 km) kleine Insel Montserrat ist
von üppiger Vegetation bewachsen: (Obst-)Bäume, farbige Sträucher und
atemberaubende Blumen in mannigfaltiger Farbe und Form! : )
Bei ca.
5000 Einwohnern kennt sich auch hier jeder und grüsst, winkt und hupt - auch
mich als Wanderer und Jogger. Mit Temperaturen zwischen 21 und 27 Grad ist es
hier auf Montserrat fast ideal – aber mit sehr hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit... in der
Nacht ergeben sich heftige Regengüsse, was auch für die Moskitos ein Paradies
ist! - Aber mit einem Problem muss man sich doch herumschlagen, sonst wird es
noch langweilig!? - Das wird es mir sicher nicht, aber echt: Die Mücken machen
mich wahnsinnig...
The Soufrière volcano not only covered 2/3 of the island in ashes between 1995 and 2010, but also creates very fertile land... more every day: Since 2010, Montserrat has grown by 1/3! The small island of Montserrat, which is currently 105 km2 (16 x 11 km), is full of lush vegetation: (fruit) trees, colourful bushes and breathtaking flowers in a variety of colours and forms! : )
With around 5000 inhabitants, everyone knows each other and greets, waves and honks - including me as a hiker and jogger. With temperatures between 21 and 27 degrees, it is almost ideal here on Montserrat – but with very high humidity... at night there are heavy downpours, which is also a paradise for mosquitoes! - There must be one problem I have to deal with, otherwise I will get bored!? - I'm sure I won't, but seriously: The mosquitoes are driving me crazy...

Am Montag
machte ich mich zu Fuss auf Richtung Norden, steckte meinen Daumen raus und
schwupps war ich schon in Little Bay! - Autostopp klappt wie auf allen Inseln
bisher hervorragend! : ) Von dort wanderte ich 1 Stunde mit Hilfe von maps.me (https://maps.me) zur Rendezvous Bay. Das Meer war
wild und ich wagte nur einen gaaanz kurzen Eintaucher - die Wellen stets im
Blickwinkel! Nach 1 Stunde zuerst steil hinauf, war ich dann in Little Bay
bereit für eine Pause... warum nicht ein frühes Abendessen im Summer Breeze (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558998307147)
mit dem Sonnenuntergang vor der Nase? - Paradiesisch! : )
On Monday I set off on foot towards the north, stuck out my thumb and hey presto I was in Little Bay! - Hitchhiking works brilliantly, as it has on all the islands so far! : ) From there I walked for 1 hour to Rendezvous Bay with the help of maps.me (https://maps.me). The sea was wild and I only dared to take a very short dip - the waves always in sight! After 1 hour of climbing steeply, I was ready for a break in Little Bay... why not an early dinner at Summer Breeze (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558998307147) with the sunset in front of me? - Heavenly! : )

Dienstag joggte ich Woodlands und Umgebung ab, mit der Idee schwimmen zu gehen.
Das konnte ich aber gleich wieder aus dem Kopf schlagen, denn die Wellen am
Woodlands Beach waren zu heftig...
On Tuesday I went for a run around Woodlands and the surrounding area, with the idea of going swimming. But I had to put that out of my mind straight away, because the waves at Woodlands Beach were too strong...

Am
Nachmittag spazierte ich 1/2 h nach Salem und landete gleich im botanischen
Garten des National Trust (https://montserratnationaltrust.ms).
Danach schlenderte ich durch den schmucken Ort und 1 /2 Stunde weiter zum Lime
Kiln Beach... mit der Hoffnung vielleicht dort schwimmen zu können? - Aber
nein, nichts für mich seit ich 2017 in Samoa (https://franziskaaeschbach17.blogspot.com/2017/05/29-30042017-aufaga-upolu-west-samoa.html)
im Pazifik fast ertrunken bin.

In the afternoon I walked half an hour to Salem and ended up in the
National Trust's botanical garden (https://montserratnationaltrust.ms).
Thereafter I strolled through the pretty town and half an hour further to Lime
Kiln Beach... hoping to maybe be able to swim there? - But no, not for me since
I almost drowned in the Pacific in Samoa (https://franziskaaeschbach17.blogspot.com/2017/05/29-30042017-aufaga-upolu-west-samoa.html)
in 2017.
