Bei Marco
in seinen Galley Bay Cottages (https://galleybaycottages.com) fühlte ich mich so richtig wohl:
wunderschönes Cottages draussen in der Natur! Nur, ein Mietwagen ist ein Muss
und ich war so froh um meinen Kia von Buzz Car Rental (https://buzzcarrentalantigua.com), denn das Dorf (das in 10
Minuten zu Fuss erreichbar ist) hat zwar 2 Restaurants und einige Rum Shacks,
aber keine Einkaufsmöglichkeit… die findet man in St. John’s, ca. 15 Minuten
mit dem Auto…
I felt absolutely comfortable at Marco’s Galley Bay Cottages (https://galleybaycottages.com): beautiful cottages out in nature! But a rental car is a must and I was so glad I had my Kia from Buzz Car Rental (https://buzzcarrentalantigua.com), because the village (which is a 10-minute walk away) has 2 restaurants and a few rum shacks, but no shops... you can find those in St. John's, about 15 minutes by car...

Auch hier
ging ich am ersten Morgen meine Umgebung joggend erkunden. Der Galley Bay
Strand befindet sich nur ein paar Minuten zu Fuss vom Cottage, die See war aber
echt wild… auch die Armani Beach nebenan! Ich joggte Richtung Westen und musste
mich durch einige Hotels schmuggeln, denn der Durchgang ist verboten aber die
Strände sind öffentlich. Zu, Schwimmen ging ich dann mit dem Auto die 10
Minuten zum Deep Bay Strand – wie herrlich in dieser geschützten Bucht! Auf dem
Rückweg machte ich noch ein Zwischenklettern hoch zum Fort Barrington, wo man
eine atemberaubende Aussicht hat.
Here, too, I went jogging on the first morning to explore my surroundings. Galley Bay Beach is only a few minutes' walk from the cottage, but the sea was really wild... as was Armani Beach next door! I run direction west and had to sneak through a few hotels because passage is prohibited but the beaches are public. I then drove the 10-minute drive to Deep Bay Beach to go swimming - how wonderful in this sheltered bay! On the way back I did a quick climb up to Fort Barrington, where you have a breathtaking view.

Die
Hauptstadt von Antigua, St. John’s muss man immer durchqueren… es hat sehr viel
Verkehr… und man benötigt sehr viel Geduld – am besten nutzt man das Stehen im
Stau zum Einkaufen in den vielen Gemüse- und Obstständen entlang der Strasse! ;
) Und man muss aufpassen, wo man parkt hier: An Tagen mit Kreuzfahrtschiffen
herrschen andere Regeln!

You always have to cross the capital of Antigua, St. John’s… there is a lot of traffic… and you need a lot of patience – the best thing to do is use the traffic jam to shop in the many vegetable and fruit stalls along the street! ; ) And you have to be careful where you park here: On days, when there are cruise ships, the rules are different!

Am
Freitag Mittag holte ich Richard am Flughafen ab - ihn hatte ich auf der
Zugfahrt in St. Kitts kennen gelernt und er hatte sich letzte Woche bei einem
Quadunfall die Schulter verletzt… Ich lud ihn in seinem Zuhause am Runaway Beach ab, wo ich auch
Tyrone kennenlernte, der mir ab Samstag eine Wohnung vermietet…
Da ich
schon mal unterwegs war, wollte ich eine kleine Wanderung (am Ende war sie 3
Stunden) um Five Islands machen… Die Wanderwege sind hier überhaupt nicht
ausgeschildert und sahen eher wie Ziegenpfade aus! Ich folgte ihnen, immer mit
dem maps.me (https://maps.me) als Kontrolle – es
ist die einzige Karte, der ich wirklich vertraue: Denn auch Wanderwege sind
markiert und 10 Karten kann man gratis runterladen - danach kann man sie ohne
Internet benutzen! : ) Nach einer Stunde erreichte ich den Pinching Bay Strand und begab mich gleich ins Meer um meinen
Schweiss abzuwaschen – herrlich! Dann ging es über einen steilen Felsen – zum Glück
haben sie Ziegen ein gutes Netzwerk hinterlassen… und runter zur Eden Beach,
einem FKK Strand… wo es auch die Schweine lieben! ; ) – Auch ich hatte Schwein,
denn 2 nette Herren nahmen mich mit, wo ich mein Auto parkiert hatte! : )

On Friday
at noon I picked up Richard at the airport - I had met him on the train ride in
St. Kitts and he had injured his shoulder in a quad bike accident last week...
I dropped him off at his home at Runaway Beach, where I also met Tyrone, from whom I will
be renting an apartment from Saturday...
Since I
was already on the road, I wanted to go for a little hike (it ended up being 3
hours) around Five Islands... The hiking trails here are not signposted at all
and looked more like goat paths! I followed them, always using maps.me (https://maps.me) as a
check - it is the only map I really trust: Hiking trails are also marked and 10
maps can be downloaded for free - after that you can use them without internet!
: ) After an hour I reached Pinching Bay beach and went straight into the water
to wash off my sweat - wonderful! Then I climbed over a steep rock - luckily the
goats left a good network... and down to Eden Beach, a nudist beach... where
the pigs love it too! ; ) - I was lucky again, because 2 nice gentlemen gave me
a ride to where I had parked my car! : )
