Diese
Woche hatte ich vor den Süden der Insel genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen… Da
ich sonst viel beschäftigt bin mit Sport, Sprachen lernen mit Duolingo, diesen
Blog schreiben und meine Weiterreise planen, fuhr ich jeweils erst nach dem
Mittag los. Um direkt quer ans andere Ende von Antigua zu gelangen, benötigt
man 1 Stunde. Das Benzin ist übrigens auf Antigua sehr günstig: wie in den
Emiraten und Oman - in St. Martin bezahlt man doppelt so viel und im
holländischen Teil Sint Maarten sogar 3x so viel! Der Grössenvergleich mit
anderen Inseln der Kleinen Antillen ist ebenfalls interessant, so ist Antigua 3x
so gross wie St. Martin und Anguilla…
This week I planned to take a closer look at the south of the island... As I am usually very busy with sports, learning languages with Duolingo, writing this blog and planning my onward journey, I only set off after midday. It takes an hour to get directly across to the other end of Antigua. Incidentally, petrol is very cheap on Antigua: like in the Emirates and Oman - in St. Martin you pay twice as much and in the Dutch part of Sint Maarten even 3x as much! The size comparison with other islands in the Lesser Antilles is also interesting, for example Antigua is 3x the size of St. Martin and Anguilla...

Mein erstes Ziel war Jolly Harbour. Ich fuhr wie immer entlang der Küste, diesmal im Gegenuhrzeigersinn, und checkte unterwegs die hübschen Buchten und Strände ab – Bilder sagen mehr als Worte!
My first destination was Jolly Harbour. As always, I drove along the coast, this time anticlockwise, and checked out the pretty bays and beaches along the way - pictures say more than words!

Am nächsten
Tag ging es ein Stück weiter westlich der Südküste entlang: via Fig Tree Drive durch
den Mini-Regenwald zum Naturhafen English Harbour und seinen hübschen Stränden
rund herum – atemberaubend! : ) Ich genoss meine Zeit bis zur Dämmerung und
musste 1 Stunde zurück in der Dunkelheit über die vielen Schlaglöcher und
Strassenschikanen.
The next day I drove a little further direction west along the south coast: via Fig Tree Drive through the mini rainforest to the natural harbour of English Harbour and its pretty beaches all around - breathtaking! : ) I enjoyed my time until dusk and had to drive back for an hour in the dark over the many potholes and road chicanes.

Die
dritte Etappe war in den äussersten Westen und ich fuhr quer durch die Insel
zur Half Moon Bay. Eine wunderschöne Bucht weit weg von allem, zwar mit einem
Restaurant aber noch ohne grosse Verbauungen – herrlich für einen Spaziergang
und zum Verweilen! : )

The third stage was to the utmost west and I took the roads across the
island to Half Moon Bay. A beautiful bay far away from everything, with a
restaurant but still without any major buildings - wonderful for a walk and to
linger! : )
