Samstag musste ich mich von meinem fantastischen Breeze Cottage der Galley Bay
Cottages (https://galleybaycottages.com) verabschieden... denn ab heute
waren alle besetzt. : ( Aber immerhin habe ich hier 4 grossartige Tage
verbracht, und jetzt ging es an den Strand: Runaway Beach - nordöstlich, auf
der andern Seite der Stadt St. John's…
On Saturday I had to say goodbye to my fantastic Breeze Cottage at Galley Bay Cottages (https://galleybaycottages.com)... because as of today they were all fully booked. : ( But at least I had spent 4 great days here, and now it was time to move on to the beach: Runaway Beach - northeast, on the other side of the city of St. John's...

Ich
benötigte die doppelte Zeit als vorausberechnet, so viele Autos drückten sich
durch die rege Stadt: 1 geschlagene Stunde! Tyrone hatte mir eines seiner Timeaway
Beach Apartments (https://www.facebook.com/Tawaybeach)
neben Richard bereit gemacht und ich richtete mich erst mal richtig ein - für
eine Woche lohnt es sich alles auszupacken! : )
It took double the time as predicted, there were so many cars squeezing through the busy city: 1 full hour! Tyrone had prepared one of his Timeaway Beach Apartments (https://www.facebook.com/Tawaybeach) next to Richard for me and I settled in properly - it's worth unpacking everything for a week! : )

Am
nächsten Morgen inspizierte ich meine Umgebung joggend… barfuss und im Bikini
auf dem Runaway Beach, der leider von einem privaten Pier für Fussgänger
unterbrochen ist - eigentlich sind alle Strände öffentlich in Antigua!? Und ich
fand heraus, dass ich vor 27 Jahren hier am Runaway Beach im Sand Haven zu Gast
war! Leider wurde es von einem Hurrikan zerstört und wartet nun eine Ruine zu
werden...
The next morning I went for a run to inspect my surroundings... barefoot and in my bikini on Runaway Beach, which is unfortunately interrupted for pedestrians by a private pier - actually all beaches in Antigua are public!? And I found out that 27 years ago I was a guest here at Runaway Beach in Sand Haven! Unfortunately it was destroyed by a hurricane and is now waiting to become a ruin...

Nachdem
es am Montag Mittag aufgehört hatte zu regnen, machte ich mich auf den ersten
Teil Antiguas im Uhrzeigersinn abzufahren: Hodges Bay, Long Bay, Devil's Bridge
und ein Bad im Hog Hole Beach. Die direkte Rückfahrt dauerte halb so lange wie die
Hinfahrt mit vielen Abstechern der Küste entlang. Antigua ist übrigens die
grösste bisher besuchte Insel der Kleinen Antillen: 280 km2 und
100'000 Einwohnern (Barbuda: 160 km2, 2500 Einwohner) und Antigua hat 365 Strände - für jeden Tag des Jahres einen!

After it stopped raining on Monday afternoon, I set off to drive around
the first part of Antigua in clockwise direction: Hodges Bay, Long Bay, Devil's
Bridge and a swim at Hog Hole Beach. The direct return trip took half as long
as the outward journey with many detours along the coast. Antigua is by the way
the largest island in the Lesser Antilles that I have visited so far: 280 km2
and 100,000 inhabitants (Barbuda: 160 km2, 2500 inhabitants) und there are 365 beaches on Antigua - one for every day of the year!
