St. Martin, St. Barts, Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius und St. Kitts & Navis haben ziemlich gute Schiffsverbindungen, weil sie nicht zu weit auseinanderliegen. Eine davon ist Makana (https://makanaferryservice.com), die St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius und St. Kitts verbindet und mal im Uhrzeigersinn und dann wieder im Gegenuhrzeiger fährt. Heute Nachmittag stand meine Fahrt nach Statia, wie St. Eustatius genannt wird, an. Nur wusste niemand wann genau die Fähre in St. Martin starten würde wegen dem schlechten Wetter... Wir werden sehen, es war ja erst kurz vor 7 Uhr und der Regen machte eine Pause. So nahm ich die Gelegenheit wahr eine Runde joggen zu gehen... das flachste Stück auf The Road bis nach Hell's Gate und zurück. : )

St. Martin, St. Barts, Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Kitts & Navis have pretty good ferry connections because they are not too far apart. One of them is Makana (https://makanaferryservice.com), which connects St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Kitts and sometimes runs clockwise or counterclockwise. This afternoon I was due to travel to Statia, as St. Eustatius is called. But nobody knew exactly when the ferry would leave St. Martin because of the bad weather... We'll see, it was only just before 7 am and the rain was taking a break. So I took the opportunity to go for a run... the flattest part of The Road to Hell's Gate and back. : )

Um 10:30 Uhr war Check-out im El Momo Cottages (http://elmomocottages.com), ob ich nun der einzige Gast war oder nicht... Mein Gepäck fühlte sich noch schwerer an, da alles feucht war von 2 Tagen Regen und hoher Feuchtigkeit in der Luft! Trotzdem musste ich es 100 Treppentritte runter zur Strasse schleppen - freundlicherweise half mir ein Arbeiter, der gerade im El Momo etwas zu erledigen hatte! Cyril brachte mich und mein Gepäck zum Hafen nach Fort Bay, wo ich es schon mal einchecken konnte und mir gesagt wurde, dass ich um 15:30 zurück sein soll...

Ich hatte Joni vom Island Flavor (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057880230612) gestern versprochen nochmals hereinzuschauen bevor ich Saba verlassen werde - und dort lud Cyril mich aus. Ich kam zur richtigen Zeit, denn Joni war alleine: Sie nahm die Bestellungen auf, kochte, servierte, wusch ab und kassierte - und ich half, was ich konnte! : )

Check-out time at El Momo Cottages (http://elmomocottages.com) was 10:30 am, whether I was the only guest or not... My luggage felt even heavier as everything was wet from 2 days of rain and high humidity in the air! Still, I had to lug it down 100 flights of stairs to the street - a worker who was doing some maintenance at El Momo kindly helped me! Cyril took me and my luggage to the port in Fort Bay, where I was able to check it in and was told to be back by 3:30 pm...

Yesterday I had promised Joni from Island Flavor (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057880230612) that I would stop by again before I left Saba - and there Cyril dropped me off. I arrived at the right time because Joni was alone: ​​She took the orders, cooked, served, washed up and collected the money - and I helped as much as I could! : )

Um 15 Uhr fuhr mich einer von Jonis Gästen zum Hafen, aber die Makana Fähre hatte sich nochmals verspätet: Nun waren es total 2 1/2 Stunden, jetzt dauerte es nochmals 1 Stunde... Zeit für einen kurzen Spaziergang! Um 17 Uhr lief dann die Fähre endlich in Saba ein und ein Polizist half mir mein Gepäck an Bord zu bringen - : ) genauso sollte die Polizei unterwegs sein: helfend nicht bestrafend!

Nach 1 Stunde Fahrt erreichten wir kurz nach 18 Uhr Statia und es war schon dunkel. Als Ich mich über ein Taxi erkundigte, staunte ich nicht schlecht, als jemand Statia Lodge (https://www.statialodge.com) rief: Toni, der Manager kam mich höchstpersönlich abholen! Wir fuhren die 2,5 km fast zum Fort de Windt, wo ich ein tolles Bungalow mit der Küche im Freien erhielt! : )

At 3 pm one of Joni's guests drove me to the harbour, but the Makana ferry was delayed even more: a total of 2 1/2 hours, now it took another hour... Time for a short walk! At 5 pm the ferry finally arrived in Saba and a policeman helped me bring my luggage on board - : ) that's how the police should be: helping, not punishing!

After an hour's drive we reached Statia shortly after 6 pm and it was already dark. When I asked about a taxi, I was amazed when someone called Statia Lodge (https://www.statialodge.com): Toni, the manager came to pick me up personally! We drove the 2.5 km almost to Fort de Windt, where I got a great bungalow with an outdoor kitchen! : )
