Castries ist die Hauptstadt von St. Lucia und Neuland
für mich… Ich verbrachte zwar 2005 etwas südlich von Castries einige Tage auf St.
Lucia, aber war nie in der Stadt. Es ist eine eher kleine Stadt, die mehrmals
von Feuer zerstört wurde und jedes Mal notdürftig zusammengeflickt wurde –
keine Schönheit! Und täglich legen 2-3 Kreuzfahrtschiffe an… Auf der anderen
Seite des kleinen Flughafens liegt der Vigie Stand, den peilte ich an auf
meiner Joggingtour durch Castries…
Castries is the capital of St. Lucia and new territory for me... I did spend a few days on St. Lucia in 2005, south of Castries, but I have never been in town. It is a rather small city, which has been destroyed by fire several times and patched up each time - not a pretty town! And 2-3 cruise ships dock every day... On the other side of the small airport is Vigie Beach, which I targeted on my jogging tour through Castries...

St. Lucia ist 617 km2 mit 180’000 Einwohner, die heute alle vom Tourismus leben. Eine sehr dicht besiedelte Insel, die auf mich ähnlich wie Dominika wirkt – nicht nur in der geografischen Form. Das Leben auf St. Lucia ist jedoch bedeutend teurer… angepasst ans Niveau der Touristen?
St. Lucia is 617 km2 with 180,000 inhabitants, all of whom live from tourism today. A very densely populated island, that to me shares similarities to Dominica - and not just in terms of its geographical shape. However, life on St. Lucia is significantly more expensive… adjusted to the level of tourists?

Am Dienstag nahm ich in Castries einen Bus nach
Rodney Bay: Dort gibt es eine grosse Marina und vielleicht eine Mitfahrtmöglichkeit
nach St. Vincent & Bequia, durch die Grenadinen, Grenada und wer weiss
sogar nach Trinidad & Tobago? - Die netten Damen vom Empfang der Rodney Bay
Marina (https://www.igymarinas.com/marinas/rodney-bay-marina) stellte meine Anfrage in ihren
Schaukasten und gaben mir den Tipp, Barbara der My Island Girl auf G28 zu
besuchen… was ich tat! : ) Die nette Amerikanerin wird meine Anfrage im Radio
aussenden – mal sehen!?
On Tuesday I took a bus from Castries to Rodney Bay: There is a large marina and maybe the opportunity for a ride to St. Vincent & Bequia, through the Grenadines, Grenada and who knows even to Trinidad & Tobago? - The nice ladies at the reception of the Rodney Bay Marina (https://www.igymarinas.com/marinas/rodney-bay-marina) put my request in their display case and gave me the tip to visit Barbara from My Island Girl on G28... which I did! : ) The lovely American woman will broadcast my request on the radio – let’s see!?

Zu Fuss ging ich darauf auf Entdeckungstour durch
Gros Islet und dem Pigeon Island Beach entlang. Das Wetter wurde immer besser
und ich konnte meinen Regenschirm schliessen… es wurde sogar so einladend, dass
ich in die bedeutend kühleren Fluten stieg und am herrlichen Strand etwas verweilte,
bevor ich einen Bus zurücknahm! : )

Thereafter I went on foot on a discovery tour of Gros Islet and along
Pigeon Island Beach. The weather was getting better and I was able to close my
umbrella... it even became so inviting, that I even stepped into the considerably
cooler ocean and lingered a while on the beautiful beach before heading back by
bus! : )
