Heute Morgen fuhr ich per Anhalter und Bus über Canefield zum Emerald Pool, wo ich Colin 2 ½ Stunden später treffen würde um mit ihm einen Teil der Nordspitze von Dominica abzufahren. Als ich in Canefield ausstieg, riss einer meiner Fipflops... gleich gegenüber der Bushaltestelle hatte es einen Chinesenladen, der leider nur viel zu grosse oder zu kleine zum Verkauf hatte - dafür Leim! So flickte ich meine Schuhe, bis ich neue finden werde!

This morning I hitchhiked and took a bus via Canefield to Emerald Pool, where I would meet Colin 2 ½ hours later to drive with him along a part of the northern tip of Dominica. When I got off in Canefield, one of my flip-flops broke... right opposite the bus stop there was a Chinese shop that unfortunately only had shoes for sale that were too big or too small - but they had glue! Consequently I repaired my shoe until I found new ones!

Mit Colin fuhr ich über Castle Bruce zum Kalinago Gebiet. Es sind die Übriggebliebenen des Carib Volkes, das hier auf 15 km² mit seinen Traditionen unabhängig zu überleben versucht... etwa 3'500 Personen sind es. Dominicas Population von ca. 75'000 Einwohner hat sich in 20 Jahren nicht gross verändert, aber es wohnen etwa 4 x so viele Dominicaner ausserhalb ihrer Insel…

With Colin I drove via Castle Bruce to the Kalinago area. They are the remaining of the Carib tribe, who are trying to survive independently with their traditions on 15 km²... there are about 3,500 indigenous. Dominica's population of around 75,000 hasn't changed much in 20 years, but there are about 4 times as many Dominicans living outside their island...

Nach einem Rast in der Woodford Hill Bay und einem Einkauf beim Pointe Baptiste Chocolatier (http://www.pointebaptiste.com/chocolaterie.html) erreichten wir die Sandbar (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100069260510934) in Calibishie, wo Colin ein grosses Apartment mit herrlicher Meersicht gemietet hatte. Wir machten eine Erkundigungsrunde durchs Dorf - aber keine Flipflops weit und breit! Am nächsten Morgen musste ich ein Paar finden, denn meine Schuhe fielen langsam auseinander... Aber die meisten Geschäfte öffneten gar nicht erst… immerhin fanden wir etwas zum Frühstück! : )

After a break in Woodford Hill Bay and a shopping stop at Pointe Baptiste Chocolatier (http://www.pointebaptiste.com/chocolaterie.html) we reached the Sandbar (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100069260510934) in Calibishie, where Colin had rented a large apartment with a wonderful sea view. We went on a tour around the village - but no flip-flops anywhere! The next morning I had to find a pair because my shoes were slowly falling apart... But most of the shops didn't even open... at least we found something for breakfast! : )

Bevor es zu Fuss 45 Minuten zum No. 1 Beach ging, traf ich Jacko vom Unique Cafe Seaview, der mich herumfuhr um ein grösseres Gebiet abzudecken. Und hatte ich Glück: In einem Lebensmittelladen hatte es doch tatsächlich ein Paar Flipflops in meiner Grösse - endlich konnte ich wieder Schritt halten!

Before walking 45 minutes to No. 1 Beach, I met Jacko from Unique Cafe Seaview next door, who drove me around to cover a larger area. And I was lucky: In a grocery store there was actually a pair of flip-flops in my size – finally I could keep up again!

Am No. 1 Beach trennten sich unsere Wege: Colin wanderte zurück nach Calibishie und ich fuhr per Anhalter über Portsmouth nach Mero... Vielen Dank nochmals für die tollen Tage, Colin. : )
